Fourth of July

July 3, 2009

I hope everyone has a wonderful and long holiday weekend and that you get to take in a fireworks display along the way.  I love all the things this weekend represents – seeing the patriotic, red, white and blue decorations everywhere; sleeping late; enjoying bar-b-que with my family; swimming and getting too much sun; a flag cake with whipped cream, strawberries and blueberries, and of course, fireworks.  Let us not forget what it means to be able to celebrate our country’s independence and say a prayer for the soldiers who are away from home so that we can continue to have that independence and freedom.  Happy 4th of July!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck
